A Life Devoted to Animals—and the Westie Breed

At Wild Wild Westies, every puppy begins their life surrounded by care, love, and science-backed guidance—all thanks to the passion and expertise of our founder, Tamara Nimmons. With a lifelong devotion to animals, Tamara brings more than experience to the table—she brings heart, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to ethical breeding.

If you’ve ever wondered what makes our Westies so special, it starts here—with the woman who’s been building this program since 2006.

From Wildlife to Westies: A Passion-Driven Journey

Tamara’s background is as impressive as it is heartfelt. A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BS in Biology, she began her career as a veterinary technician, honing her knowledge of animal health and behavior. But her dedication to animals started well before that.

She spent years operating the Lakota Wildlife Center, a rescue and rehabilitation facility for injured and orphaned wildlife. From foxes to fawns, she nurtured animals of all kinds—developing a deep understanding of both their physical needs and emotional well-being.

So why Westies?

“I’ve always worked with animals, but the moment I met my first Westie, I was hooked. Their big hearts, fearless attitude, and loyal nature were everything I love about dogs—wrapped up in a small, white, spunky package. Westies rule! (No, really… they rule.)”

A Breeding Program Built on Science and Soul

Since 2006, Tamara has dedicated her life to raising purebred West Highland White Terriers—and only Westies. Why just one breed? Because she believes when you find the best, you give it your best. Her breeding philosophy is built on:

  • Health-first breeding with champion bloodlines
  • Scientific care backed by biology and veterinary training
  • One-on-one puppy socialization from day one
  • Home-based upbringing on a 15-acre rural property in Abbeville, SC
  • Lifetime breeder support for every adopting family

Tamara manages every aspect of the program herself—from prenatal care to puppy placement. She personally oversees puppy development, socialization, and family communication.

“I’m here to help from the day your puppy is born until the day you pick them up—and beyond. These aren’t just dogs. They’re future family members.”

Westies Raised Like Family

Under Tamara’s care, every puppy is raised not in a kennel—but as part of a family. The dogs live and play on a sprawling fenced property, with access to grass, sunshine, and structured socialization. Here’s how her program stands apart:

  • Daily exercise on over 15 acres of fenced land
  • Premium diet of dry kibble + fresh meat + daily vitamin/mineral supplements
  • Early-life stimulation to encourage mental and emotional growth
  • Outdoor “field trips” as soon as puppies are strong enough to explore
  • Puppy interaction with the adult pack for healthy social development
  • Strict worming and vaccination schedule (records provided)

And perhaps most special of all—Tamara sends weekly photo updates to each future owner starting at 3–4 weeks old. You’ll watch your puppy grow week by week, forming a bond before they even arrive home.

A Message From Tamara

“Raising Westies is more than a job—it’s my life. These dogs are smart, loyal, fearless, and loving. And I believe in giving each puppy the best possible start before they leave my arms and jump into yours.

Whether you’re a longtime dog owner or bringing home your first, I’m here to guide you, answer your questions, and make this the joyful experience it should be.”
